Editing techniques-Lilly
Jack Reacher
Cutaway shots are also used throughout after 3.55s, this is
used to show the amount of things that are happening after the shootings.

The cut to the van adds suspense to the scene because it shows that a scene of action is about to happen.
A smash cut is used throughout the scene, this is to show
suspense and it gives the viewer the idea that something intense is about to
happen.
An iris is used at 2.25s in order to make the viewer focus
on one specific thing. It creates a feeling of anticipation as the actor gradually
moves the telescope from one victim to the other, some with children which
panics the viewer even more.

Analysis of film opening in sub genre-Lilly
Bridge of spies
The movie opens up with a fade in of a small information about a war. This gives the audience the idea that the film is historic and about a war. White text is used on a black background, this immediately shows the viewer that the mood of the movie will not be joyful.
An establishing shot is used to show the audience the location of where the movie is set at.
This close up gives the audience the idea that something is up and maybe a bit of action is about to take place. It has the noun "government" which shows that it is an important vehicle.
A medium shot is used to show the people that are coming out the vehicle. this could have been used to show the actors faces, costume and location all at the same time.
An over the shoulder shot is used to show the actor is carefully looking at a piece of information for any specific detail or evidence. the audience might think this because an iris is used to show this.
This text is shows information which will give the audience an idea of what the movie is about. The enlargement of the bottom text is used to emphasise the fact that an actors life was changed because of one case.
This is a close up of a few actors' faces whilst in a scene, this shows the audience that whatever the case is about, the public are not happy with the man and he receives disgusting looks whenever he is going to places.
This close up also shows an important piece of information. As well as the previous text, the bottom text is enlarged to emphasise the fact that the incident changed not only the actors life but it is also impacting the rest of the world, which could be why he is given looks when he is around places.
This is a long shot/medium shot. It shows the old aeroplane at the back which were used in wars. This shows that these people could be having an important conversation about the war.
A medium shot is used to show the director of the film. It is put in one frame without any other thing so the audience are focused on one thing and this will help them remember who the director of the film is.
A long shot/ worms eye view is used to show the audience what the actor is looking at.
A match on action/ medium shot is used to show the actors expression as he sees what he sees what he is looking. It also shows the background and location that he is in.
The last shot is the title of the film all in bold letters. This is used to leave the audience knowing what movie they are watching because it fills the screen and the audience can not get distracted by another thing. The colour red is used in this as well as the other texts, this cold be because it signifies, danger, war or a caution.

Analysing costumes-Lilly
Doctor Strange
This image captures the narrative theory of Binary opposites, this is because the costume is white and the room the actor in is dark. The image is creative because the actor is positioned on the right hand side of the frame, although there isn't much for the audience to see in the centre and the left hand side, it makes the audience notice the dark from the light which gives the audience the idea that the actor is peaceful in mind. This shot is creative because is doesn't use a shallow focus in order to focus the audiences attention on the actor a dark background is used which contrasts his costume.

This image also captures the narrative theory of Binary opposites however the costume is yellow and the background is grey. They are both bright colours but the grey could be symbolising a gloomy dull day and the fact that the actor is dressed in yellow could show the audience that something is about to happen which will change the atmosphere. this shot is creative because its tilted and its also a low angle shot, this shows that the actors character is powerful therefore the camera is looking up at him- which is the audiences view.
Jason Bourne

This shot captures the sub-genre of thriller/action because the actors costume is dark and simple. It could make the audience think that that the actor is not trying to make his image easily recognisable because he seems to be in a dark, dodgy area. This medium shot is creative because it also seems to be like a shallow focus, over the shoulder shot.

This shot captures half of the sub-genre of thriller/action. The actor seems to be in a rush and because he is dressed formally and is on the phone. Unlike the shot above, this shot is the opposite because the actor is in a bright suit and the location he's in seems to be quite bright. This could give the audience the idea that this character is probably the good and the character above is the bad guy. These shots together capture the narrative theory of Binary opposites.
Snowden
This shot doesn't really capture its sub-genre, drama film/thriller. The actor is dressed in a military uniform which could give the audience the idea that this film will be about the military and government. This shot is creative because it is taken at a low angle which shows that the character is an important role.
This shot captures half of the sub-genre, Drama film/thriller because the actor on the left is dressed in a detective like costume. This shot as well as the one above gives the audience the feeling that the character on the left is always lower down than the people he is visiting because he is dressed casually. It also shows that he could be on a mission to find something out because of the people he is meeting up with. This shot is creative because both characters are dressed in dark clothes and the location they are in seems to be bright. that could signify that what they are in search for might not bring good news to someone else.

Location ideas-Lilly
We could use a shot of Starbucks to show that this is where Ryan goes in the mornings before getting to work. It can be creative because it could show how Ryan and Amaris first met.
We could use the train station to show that this is how Ryan gets to and from work. It could also show that this is where Ryan and Amaris meet for the first time, showing that this is where the obsession began.
We could use this to show Ryan's profession. We could also have shots of Amaris in the same location to show that she is stalking him, showing her obsession towards him.

Practising storyboard-Lilly
Storyboard evaluation
I think what went well in my story board was the fact that it was clear to see and figure out what was happening in each shot. I also think the diagrams were good, however, we could've drawn them into more detail such that it becomes effective towards the viewer. It would've been better if we included things such as the shot type we were going to use and the duration of each shot. To also improve it we could've added more information such as the sound that was going to be used. For my next storyboard I will add more detail that would benefit the viewer in which it would help them know what sound, duration and shots are being used in each shot. I will also add more detail to the images so that it clearly shows the environment that the shot is being taken at.

Audience Research-Lilly
Ouija
UK film poster
Website
The trailer doesn't reveal much about the movie because they are concealing the best bits of the movie however they do make it interesting enough for viewers to want the audience to know more about the film.
The film is target at teenagers but the requirement to legally watch it in cinema is 15. This film is aimed at both genders.
UK film poster
Website
The Ouija poster is quite simple because of the colours and text used to present it. The girl and the game are positioned in the middle of the frame so the audience know that that is where their main focus should be. The background is very dark and he girl in the middle is dressed in white which contrasts the background. The audiences main focus would be on the girl rather than the plain black background until they realise that their is a figure standing behind the girl. The font used is in the colour red, this could be because red symbolises danger and blood which means that the film could have things like that going on.
Social media
The website is very simple but with a synopsis about the movie which would help viewers to understand the movie in more depth.
Their websites like Facebook will help people know what is going on with the movie and they are able to visit the website in case they want to know more about the movie and comment and interact with people with their similar interests.

There are quite a few similarities in Silent retreat and se7en's opening sequences. In se7en the shot types are similar and most them seem to be close up shots, the font editing and sound used is also different compared to the ones used in Silent retreat. In Silent retreat, there is a variety of shot types used, the actors faces are also shown unlike Se7en there are no faces shown. The font used is more still compared to the one of Se7en.
The isn't a lot of similarities except from the fact that the font used in both films are white and are usually on a dark background.
I think Silent retreat is more effective for a thriller genre compared to se7en because the backgrounds used when the titles are being presented seem more thriller like because they are in a way creepy and unusual.
