In-depth Analysis of Editing - Neamh

Now You See Me: opening scene

J-Cut- This is used right at the start of the scene when one of the main characters enters. This is used so that the audience has time to get an idea of what the character is like before it jumps straight into the film.

Cutaway- This is used when Jack starts getting the audiences attention and the technique allows us to see the audience’s reaction to his proposal whilst he’s speaking.

Cutting on action- This is used when Jack becomes exposed whilst doing a magic trick and an audience member tries to take the spoon off him. As this all happens quickly cutting on action is a good technique to use as it creates excitement.

Wipe- Shows Jack swiftly jumping off the boat whilst transitioning from shot.

L-Cut- Quiet music is heard throughout, however, as Jack begins making his escape the volume increases. This emphasises the suspense building up.

I think the film follows the Enigma code because little information was given as to how he completed the magic trick in the opening scene. Things were also unclear when Jack managed to steal belongings from an audience member without them knowing. This all seems to fit the description of a film that would be Enigma Code.
